PETROSPEC ANNOUNCES:

UNOCAL LICENSES pWell FOR CRITICAL DEEPWATER PLAY

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS -- Petrospec Technologies (The Woodlands, TX) has announced that Unocal’s Spirit Energy 76 Unit (Sugar Land, TX) has licensed pWell, software that automatically computes, monitors and updates formation pressure predictions while drilling using real-time LWD data. pWell is deployed on Unocal’s state-of-the-art drilling vessel, the Discoverer Spirit. The Discoverer Spirit is currently drilling one of several Unocal blocks acquired in the OCS Lease Sale No. 177, where water depths exceed 7,000’.

Owing to pWell’s unique Intranet architecture, drilling engineers at Unocal can monitor formation pressure in real-time while drilling on the Discoverer Spirit and at their offices in Sugar Land, simultaneously. To stay in constant contact with the drill ship, Unocal engineers at the office can receive real-time pore pressure alerts on their cell phones and pagers 24 hours a day. When no text messaging is available, pWell uses voice synthesis to call drilling engineers on any phone to automatically relay pore pressure alerts.

Mark Herkommer, president of Petrospec, noted, “pWell is an important advancement in pore pressure prediction systems. It represents a fundamental shift in the way real-time data is received, interpreted, and relayed to the drilling engineer. We no longer need to have expensive consultants standing waiting for something to happen. All we need is this software and wireless communication.”

pWell is available for immediate delivery for Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/NT.
